PHILOSOPHY
This Project believes that the Personal and Social Development of each member of the Youth Project is important. Youth activities flourish in an environment where good relationships are encouraged, where people feel valued and respected and where there is genuine compassion, fairness and support for those in difficulty. This philosophy underpins and informs all the work we do and is central to this Policy document.
VISION
Young people are empowered leaders, using their voice to create a safe and inclusive community, within a fair and equitable society.
MISSION
Through developmental youth work, we provide a safe, inclusive and creative space, where young people, including those who are seldom heard, can understand and express their needs and interests and can access the support, learning opportunities and responses we provide, in partnership with the wider community.
VALUES
These are our values:
Young Person Centered | Everything we do in Poppintree Youth Project is young person centered. This is our starting point in working with young people and dictates what we do and how we do it. A question we keep central to everything we do is… Is this in the best interest of Young People?
Inclusivity
We welcome all young people into our project, where we provide a safe and comfortable environment, and where they can explore and celebrate their identity, especially those aspects of their identity that make them different from others such as their culture or ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, gender, health including mental health.
Respect | We treat everyone in Poppintree Youth Project with respect. We believe that respect is essential in order to build positive and healthy relationships with everyone we work with.
Trust | We believe that the trust engendered by strong relationships enables us to encourage young people to try new experiences, take some risks and acquire new learning.
Caring and Compassion
We approach our work with a sense of care and compassion, and we seek to understand the circumstances and experiences of the young people we work with, in order to deliver the best service possible |
Empathy
We believe that empathy is essential to help us to advocate for and on behalf of the young people we work with. The understanding and commitment that empathy provides enables us to seek the responses necessary to meet the needs of the young people in our community.
Integrity
We stand up for what we believe in and strive to do the right thing. Working with integrity enables us to build trusting relationships with young people and with the wider community. |
Nurturing
We work to provide a nurturing environment where young people are given the care and attention they deserve, in terms of their overall physical, social and emotional wellbeing |
Passion for the work
We strive to deliver quality youth work based on best practice and informed by the best evidence available. We also believe that this must be supported by a passion for this work, which drives us to do our best.
Vibrant
We are an energetic and responsive project. We constantly seek to understand the needs and interests of the young people we work with and do everything in our power to respond accordingly. |
Fun
We believe in the importance of voluntary participation on the part of young people and the significance of opportunities for learning new skills and insights. We also believe that young people should have the opportunity to experience all of this in an atmosphere of fun and happiness. This is where the best learning takes place.
